How do I verify my identity and my tax return?

ID.me does not process tax returns for the IRS. As a technology provider, ID.me provides identity verification for IRS applications.

If you received an IRS Letter 5071C, 6331C, 5447C or 5747C directing you to verify your identity and tax return information, you must verify information from your tax return with the IRS to complete the process.

After completing the ID.me identity verification process, follow the steps below to finish the verify your return process:

  1. Return to the identity and tax return verification page.
  2. Sign in with your ID.me account.
  3. Continue with tax return verification questions.
