If you previously verified your identity using a still photo of yourself (a selfie), you may be prompted at your next sign-in to upgrade your credentials with a video selfie. The video selfie is further evidence that you are a real person, present for verification, and not (for example) a cybercriminal showing a printed photo.
NOTE: You will need a smartphone or other camera-enabled mobile device with internet access to continue. For best results, ensure that you are in a well-lit area.
To upgrade your credential with a video selfie:
- The next time you sign in to your Treasury account, follow the prompts to complete your sign-in using ID.me multi-factor authentication.
- Confirm your device's phone number, and you will receive a link.
- Tap the link, then tap Start Video Selfie.
- Follow the instructions carefully: make sure your face takes up most of the oval, then keep your face still as the video is recorded. It takes just a few seconds.
- If you receive a message that You've successfully completed your video selfie, just tap Continue to finish sign-in.
If an error message is displayed, read it carefully and try again. If you are still unsuccessful, you may be given the option to complete a Virtual In-Person Proofing video call with a Trusted Referee.
