ID.me works with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to verify USPTO users accessing the Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS) online portal. This article explains how you can verify with USPTO using Self-Service, an automated process.

After you’ve successfully set up MFA, continue to Step 2. Verify your identity using Self-Service.
2. Verify your identity using Self-Service
After you’re signed in to your ID.me account, you can verify your identity with a video selfie, or over a video call with a live agent. To verify your identity with a video selfie:
- Select Self-Service, then select Continue. Self-Service is an automated process where you'll need your Government ID and a selfie.
Note: If you do not live in the US, select I don’t have a driver’s license, state ID, passport, or passport card to verify over a video call with two primary documents or one primary and one secondary document. - Follow the prompts to upload your US driver’s license or state photo ID, or select Change Document to upload a passport or passport card. Learn how to take photos of your documents.
- Take and submit a selfie. Your selfie will only be used to confirm that the person in the selfie matches your government ID. You can request that ID.me delete your Biometric Data at any time.
Note: If you’re taking a selfie using your smartphone and you don’t have a US phone number, select I don’t have a US phone number. - Enter your Social Security number. If you don’t have a Social Security number, select I don’t have a Social Security number.
- Review and confirm that all of your information is accurate, then select Yes. After ID.me verifies your identity you will receive a confirmation message as a way to protect you from fraud.
If you don’t have a US address, select I don’t have a US address. - Select Allow to finish your identity verification process. This step securely shares your identity information with USPTO.
