When you select Code Generator as a multi-factor authentication (MFA) option, you download and install a code-generating app to your smartphone, for example the ID.me Authenticator app, Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, etc.
Then, to sign in to your ID.me account, you enter an additional 6-digit code generated by the app.
To set up Code Generator as an MFA option:
1. On the screen below, select Code Generator Application.
2. Download and install the ID.me Authenticator app if needed, then use it to scan the QR code displayed. This step associates your code-generating app with your ID.me account. Click Continue.
3. Then, on the screen below, enter the code from the code-generating app. (A new 6-digit code is generated every 30 seconds.) You may also give your device a name. If the code matches, set-up is complete.
To use Code Generator as your MFA option at sign-in:
1. Begin the sign-in process to your ID.me account.
2. When prompted, launch your code-generating app, then enter the code displayed before the timer runs out.
