Make sure that you have completed all of the following set-up steps for Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances (EPCS) or ePrescribing (eRx):
Step 1: Ensure That Your Identity Is Verified
Visit your Practice Dashboard to see if your identity has been verified.
eRx users should:
- Click the e-Prescribing tile.
- Check line 4 (Set up authentication and verify your identity with ID.me) to see if it is marked Complete.
EPCS users should:
- Click the Controlled substances eRx tile.
- Check line 2 (Set up authentication and verify your identity with ID.me) to see if it is marked Complete.
If the identity line is not marked complete, visit this article to learn more about identity verification.
Step 2: Get Access From A Local Admin
After you have completed identity verification, DEA requires that a practice administrator (admin) other than yourself grant you permission to e-sign controlled substances.
If you are the only admin, you must at least temporarily promote another user to admin. After that admin has granted you access, you can remove their admin access.

Step 3: Medical Credential Check
If you have never prescribed controlled substances through Practice Fusion, your medical credentials may need to be checked before the process is complete. Credential checks may take up to 7 business days. For questions, please contact the Practice Fusion Support Team.
Step 4: Sending ePrescriptions for Controlled Substances
The process is now complete. Read this article on how to send e-prescriptions for controlled substances (EPCS).
