Use ID.me virtual in-person identity proofing to complete identity verification.
If you fail identity verification online, you may be prompted to schedule a free Virtual In-Person identity proofing session with an ID.me Trusted Referee from available appointments to complete identity verification. Trusted Referees are trained and certified member support employees who will guide you through the identity proofing process.
While traditional online identity proofing helps most users access secure services online, some populations struggle with the online process. Virtual in-person proofing allows those individuals to complete identity proofing with a trained Trusted Referee via a simple video conference session. Individuals may require virtual in-person proofing to overcome several challenges:
ID.me will prompt you to schedule an appointment after your verification attempt fails. Choose an available time slot for your appointment. ID.me will email you to confirm the date and time and provide a link to your video session.
NOTE: If no appointments are available, you will not be prompted to schedule a Virtual In-Person identity proofing session. In this situation, attempt your verification at another time or contact member support at help@ID.me. You may be prompted to upload your identity documents. Identity proofing with a Trusted Referee is different from online proofing in that it requires either 2 Primary documents OR 1 Primary document and 2 Secondary documents. Attach photos of the documents to your application.
If you had previously uploaded identity documents during your verification attempt, they will already be attached to your application. Lastly, ID.me will send a text link to your mobile phone. When you click the link, you will be prompted to take and submit a selfie. ID.me uses this selfie to confirm that the person attending the video session is the same person getting verified.
NOTE: Keep the physical copies of your identity documents on hand to present during your Virtual In-Person proofing appointment. They must be the same documents you previously uploaded.
On the day of your appointment, you’ll receive a text reminder. Click the link in your confirmation email or text message to attend your appointment via desktop web browser or the mobile Zoom app.
NOTE: If you plan to attend your session on your mobile phone, download the Zoom.us app from the Google Play or Apple app store.
Confirm your personal information with the Trusted Referee and show them your documents via video conference. The Trusted Referee will attest the authenticity of your documents, and identity verification should be complete.
