If you are verifying as a medical provider, but do not have a National Provider Identifier (NPI), you can upload a document or enter your Nurse License number (if you are verifying as a nurse). This article explains how to continue your medical provider verification without an NPI number.
1. Begin verification
To get started:
- Visit any partner website offering deals or discounts for medical providers or visit ID.me Shop.
- Sign in to your ID.me account or create a new account.
- Select Medical Provider and select Continue to sign in.
Note:Some partners may require nurses to complete a medical provider verification in order to access certain offers. If you are a nurse, you can verify as both a medical provider and a nurse to make sure that you can access all offers available to you. For more information, visit Verifying as a Nurse.
If you are asked to verify your identity, follow the steps in Verify your identity and medical provider status. If you are only asked to verify your status as a medical provider, skip the following section and follow the steps in Verify as a medical provider only (no identity verification).
2A. Verify your identity and medical provider status
When verifying as a medical provider, most partners will ask you to verify your identity with:
- Your phone number and date of birth, or
- An identity document (driver’s license, state ID, passport or passport card)
If you are not prompted to verify your identity using a phone number, birthdate, or documents, go to Verify as a medical provider only (no identity verification).
To get started, select the verification method you’d like to use.
To verify using your phone number:
- Select Begin and enter your phone number and date of birth. ID.me will text you a link to your phone number.
- Select the link in the text message to verify your identity.
- After verifying your phone number, go to Verify medical provider status to continue the verification process.
To verify with a government-issued photo ID:
- Select the photo ID you’d like to submit: driver’s license, state-issued ID, passport, or passport card.
- Submit photos of your photo ID using the camera on your smartphone, or upload an existing photo from your current device.
- If you’re taking photos with your smartphone, return to the previous browser tab after submitting your photos. Confirm that the information on your ID is clearly legible in the photo, then select Continue.
- After verifying your phone number, go to Verify medical provider status to continue the verification process.
