Getting help after verifying for the IRS

For questions about your tax transcripts, refund status, tax payments, or IRS error codes, you must contact the IRS directly, as ID.me can only help with identity verification.

This article outlines common scenarios that require reaching out to the IRS for additional support.

Get your IP PIN

To learn how to get your IP PIN, visit Getting your IP PIN from the IRS.

Request your tax transcript

To request your tax transcript:

1. Visit https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript.
2. Select Sign in to your online account.
3. Select Sign in with ID.me, then sign in to your account. If you don’t have an ID.me account, create a new account.
4. View and download your available transcripts.

Check your tax refund status

To check on your refund status:

1. Visit https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund. 
2. Select Check your refund.
3. Enter your information, then select Submit.

Tax payments and payment plans

To make a payment or sign in to your IRS online account, visit IRS payments.

Find your adjusted gross income (AGI)

To find your AGI:

1. Go to the IRS Online account for individuals
2. Select Sign in to your online account.
3. Select Sign in with ID.me, then sign in to your account. If you don’t have an ID.me account, create a new account.
4. Select View tax records.
5. Find your AGI from the previous year under “Return Summary”.
