Who can verify their identity in person

To verify your identity in person:

• You must be at least 18 years old.
• The organization you’re accessing must offer in-person verification. This option will appear during the verification process if available.

1. Book your in-person ID.me appointment

Start by booking your appointment or walk-in online:

Sign in or create an ID.me account

1. Go to the website of the organization or agency you’re accessing.
2. Select Verify with ID.me, then sign in to your ID.me account. If you’ve never had an account, create an account, confirm your email address, then set up multi-factor authentication (MFA).
3. Select In-Person. 
4. Confirm that you’re verifying for state benefits or federal services by selecting Yes.
5. Consent to ID.me collecting your biometric data and personal information.
6. Enter your information and select Continue.

Choose your appointment details

1. Enter your ZIP code or city to find retail locations.
2. Select a day and time or choose the “Walk-in” option to visit during regular business hours.
3. Review your appointment details and make edits if needed.
4. Select the checkbox for the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), then select Continue.

Save your QR code

The confirmation screen and email you receive will include your appointment details, the retail location’s address, and your QR code. Save or print your QR code to bring with you.

2. Get ready for your appointment at a retail location

To get ready to verify in person:

• Check your confirmation email for the appointment date, time, and location. If you booked a walk-in, confirm the location’s hours.
• Gather your 2-3 forms of identity documents to bring with you.
• Ensure your QR code is active. Codes expire after 30 days. If it expires, renew it via the email sent by ID.me.
• Write down or print your 25-character code if you don’t have a mobile device. 

3. Verify at the retail location

When you arrive at the retail location:

1. Find the technician: The technician will guide you through the process. They’ll confirm your identity documents are valid, belong to you, and match your information.
2. Show your documents: For some organizations, you’ll only need to show your documents to the technician. No additional reviews will be required.

3. Submit photos of your documents: If instructed, upload photos of your documents at the kiosk. Enter your information, scan your QR code, and submit the photos for ID.me review.

   Note: You’ll receive an email confirming that your documents have been processed. This may take up to 24 hours, or longer during periods of high volume.

4. Complete the verification process

To complete the process:

1. Wait for an email from ID.me confirming your documents were approved.
2. Return to the organization or agency’s website and sign in to your ID.me account.
3. When prompted, select Allow to share your information.

Can I walk in without an appointment?

Yes, but you must start the process online and choose the Walk-in option. If you already scheduled an appointment, you can still walk in during business hours. Bring your identity documents and QR code.

Can I reschedule my appointment?

Yes. You can reschedule by using the link in your confirmation email. Alternatively, you can walk in during regular hours, but wait times may be longer without an appointment.

Can I visit any retail location?

Yes. You can visit any retail location during business hours, whether you scheduled an appointment or chose the walk-in option.

Will my QR code expire?

Yes. QR codes expire after 30 days. If yours expires, you’ll receive an email to renew it and book another appointment.
