When verifying for military discounts it’s important to ensure you are eligible and that you verify your military status for the community you are a member of. This article includes definitions for each military community. This will help you decide which military community to verify for.
Military family members
A military family member means your father, mother, son, or daughter is or was previously in the military. You must be an immediate family member of a service member, veteran, or retiree who is over the age of 18. Dependents under the age of 18, and extended family members are not eligible.
Military spouses
A military spouse means you are married to someone who is/was in the military.
This includes
- Spouses of any service member, veteran or retiree as defined in this article.
- Surviving spouses who can verify as a military spouse.
Service members
A service member is currently a member of the military. This includes:
- Active Duty
- National Guard
- Reserve
Retirees
A retiree means you are retired from the military. This includes any former member of the military who is entitled, under statute, to retired, retirement, or retainer pay. For example: 20 or more years of cumulative time in service, or being 100% medically retired.
Veterans
A veteran means you have previously served in the military. Former members of the military who were discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable, and served less than 20 years cumulative time in service are eligible.
