To verify your military status online with ID.me, you may need to upload a document that proves your service or affiliation. The type of document you need—such as a DD214, pay stub, or other proof of military service—depends on whether you're active duty, a veteran, spouse, family member, etc.
Documents for U.S. military
Tip: Your document must include your first and last name.
To verify as a member of the U.S. military, you’ll need one of the following:
Active service members
- Enlistment contracts
- Military pay stubs - Leave & Earnings Statement (LES)
- Record briefs - ARB/ERB/ORB (US Army)
- Reserve orders
Veterans
- DD214 form
- Driver’s license or DMV-issued State ID with VETERAN endorsement
- Honorable Discharge Certificate
- NGB form 22
- Reserve Separation Orders
- State or County-Issued Veteran ID
- VA Eligibility letters
- Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC)
- Veteran Identification Card (VIC)
Retirees
- DD214 form (must show 20 years of service or the reason for discharge was retirement)
- Driver’s License or DMV-Issued State ID with 100% DAV endorsement
- NGB form 22 (must show 20 years of service or the reason for discharge was retirement)
- Retiree Certificate
- Retiree Pay Stub
- VA disability letter

Family members and surviving spouses

- Surviving spouses can also submit a Casualty Report (DD Form 1300).
Documents for Canadian military
Tip: All documents must clearly indicate your first and last night and your military affiliation, such as service member, veteran, or retiree. Expired documents are acceptable..

Unacceptable military documents
