ID.me offers several ways to verify your Military status.
Note: Some partners may not accept all of the options below. If a verification option is not available on a partner website, select one of the remaining options displayed.
Confirm your USAA Membership
Select this option to verify your Military status based on your USAA membership.
Choose this option if:
- You are a USAA member.
- You are eligible to purchase Property & Casualty Insurance through USAA*.
- You are the primary owner of the account.
* You will not be solicited or asked to enroll in USAA's Property and Casualty insurance program.
We check the personal information that you enter against USAA's member database to verify your military affiliation. Using this option does not allow ID.me or any of its partners access to your USAA account.
Check Military Service Records
When you select this option, we verify the personal information that you enter against a database to verify your military service.
If you select this option:
- You may enter any date during which you served. For example, if you served from 01/01/1980 to 12/31/1990, you could enter 05/01/1987.
- If your name has changed, enter the name you held when you were discharged or the name listed on your military records (such as your maiden name).
- Do not include your middle initial or suffix.
If this method fails and you feel this is an error, please select a later date when you were on Active Duty.
If this verification option does not work for you, select either Verify by uploading military documentation or Verify by requesting your DD214.
NOTE: This option does not give ID.me or any of its partners access to your military service record.
Use a .mil Email Address
This option is available to military members currently serving on Active Duty, in the Reserves, or National Guard, and who have immediate access to a .mil email account.
After you submit your information, a verification link will be sent to the .mil email address you provide. Click on the link in that email (or copy and paste the manual link into your browser), and your Military status will be verified.
Upload Military Documentation
If you have a digital (scanned) copy of one of the documents listed below, you may submit it to Military status:
SERVICE MEMBERS: Leave & Earnings Statement (LES), ORB/ERB (US Army), Reserve Activation Orders
RETIREES: DD214, NGB form 22, Retiree Account Statement (eRAS), Retiree / 100% Disabled Uniformed Services ID Card
Note: The DD214 or NGB form 22 must show 20 years of service or the reason for discharge was retirement.
VETERANS: DD214, NGB form 22, Reserve Separation Orders, Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC), or Veteran Identification Card (VIC)
MILITARY SPOUSES & FAMILY MEMBERS: Any military documents listed in the categories above.
To get your paper documentation on to your computer in a digital format, use a scanner or take a digital photo.
Requesting DD214
This verification option is available only when the Check military service records option is unsuccessful. Fill out the form below to request a copy of your DD214.
When filling out the form, if your name has changed, please enter the name you held when you were discharged or the name listed on your military records (such as your maiden name).
If you are currently on Active Duty or served on full-time Active Duty at any point after 09/10/1985, you can verify using the automated "verify using active duty date" option.
Sign the form before you click Continue, or else your request will not be processed. NOTE: If you don't have a touchscreen computer, 'click and hold' the left mouse button or touchpad, to turn your mouse into a pen.
