Students can unlock exclusive discounts by verifying their status with ID.me. This article shows you how to verify your student status with ID.me in just a few steps. Also, learn who qualifies and how to fix common verification issues.
Who qualifies for student discounts
To qualify as a student, you’ll need to be:
- Actively enrolled in an accredited, government-recognized public or private university or college that grants degrees or certificates in the US or Canada. This includes college, university, community college, junior college, vocational, and technical students.
- 18 years of age or older.
Students who do not qualify
The following students are not eligible for student discounts:
- Anyone under the age of 18
- High school students
- GED recipients
- ROTC members
- U.S. citizens studying abroad
Documents to verify student status
To verify your student status, you may need to upload a document. For a list of acceptable documents, visit What documents prove your student status.
1. Find and select a student discount
To get started:
- Go to the U.S. Student Discounts or Canadian Student Discounts.
- Browse the available discounts.
- Select the offer you’d like to get. You'll be redirected to the retailer’s website.

Select the ID.me button
The ID.me button most often displays at checkout. You may also need to specify that you are verifying your student status. You'll be redirected to the ID.me sign-in page.
2. Enter your information to verify
To verify your student status:
- Sign in to your existing ID.me Wallet or create one.
- Select Begin.

Enter your school name and personal information to confirm your school enrollment.
Note: If your college or university isn’t listed, select the school that most closely matches the name of the school you attend, provide your personal information, then upload your documents. - Uploading documents is only required if we can’t find your information in the national database we use. To upload your document, choose the document type you’d like to use and upload the corresponding acceptable student document.
- After your verification is accepted, select Allow to share your information with the retailer.
Troubleshoot student verification
My school isn’t listed
If your school isn’t listed, select the school that most closely matches your institution. You’ll still be able to upload documents to verify your enrollment.
