If you’ve forgotten your password and can’t sign in, follow the steps in this article to reset it and set up a new password.
Reset your password
To reset your password:
- Go to the ID.me sign-in page and select Forgot password.
- Enter the email address on your ID.me account and select Continue.
- Check your email for a reset email titled “ID.me - Your password reset link.” It may take up to 10 minutes to receive it.
- In the email, select Reset your password or copy and enter the code into the previous browser screen and select Confirm.
- Enter your new password twice, then select Continue.
Tip: Make sure to use a strong, unique password to help protect your account.
A message will confirm that your password reset was successful. You’ll be redirected to the ID.me sign-in page.
After resetting your password
- On the ID.me sign-in page, enter your email address and new password, then select Sign in.
- Complete multi-factor authentication (MFA). If you have a new phone number or other trouble completing MFA, visit Resetting your multi-factor authentication (MFA) method.
Troubleshoot password reset issues
I didn’t get the password reset email
- Check spam or junk folders: The email is sent from hello@id.me.
- Resend the reset email: Go back to the “Forgot password” page and select Resend my verification.
- Still not receiving emails? Confirm that your email address was entered correctly or contact your email provider for support.
The password reset link isn’t working
- Error messages: If there’s an error, update your browser and clear its cache, then try again.
- Expired link: Remember, reset links expire after 15 minutes. Always use the most recent reset email.
- Resend the link: From the “Forgot password” page, select Resend my verification.
I cannot access my email address
