Verify your identity with ID.me to access your benefits or services online. To complete verification, you'll need:

• A smartphone with a front-facing camera
• A government-issued photo ID (U.S. driver’s license, state ID, passport, passport card, or permanent resident card)
• Your Social Security number (SSN)

Get started

1. Go to the website of the organization or agency you need to verify for, and select the ID.me button.
2. Sign in to your existing ID.me Wallet or create a new wallet.
3. Complete multi-factor authentication (MFA) or add MFA to protect your wallet.
4. Consent to share your information with the organization, or if prompted, follow the steps below to verify. 

How verification works

Most people can verify by taking a photo of their ID, completing a video selfie, and entering their personal info. Steps may vary slightly depending on the organization.

In general, you’ll:

1. Select your verification method (if available)
   If given the option, select Self-Service. Some organizations allow you to choose between Self-Service or a short video call.

2. Take a photo of your government-issued photo ID
   When prompted, select Allow to give ID.me access to your camera. Then use your phone's camera to take a new photo of your U.S. driver's license, state ID, passport, passport card, or permanent residence card. Photos or files already saved on your device can't be used. If your Legal ID isn't accepted, learn how to fix rejected documents.

3. Take a video selfie
   When prompted, follow the instructions to record your video selfie. This helps confirm your photo matches your ID.

4. Enter your personal information
   This may include your phone number, Social Security number, and U.S. address.
5. Review and share your info. Select Allow to authorize sharing your information with the organization.
