To verify your identity with ID.me, you’ll need at least one valid, government-issued photo ID. Most people use a driver’s license, state ID, or passport. If we can’t verify your identity with just one document, we may ask for more. This article explains the documents you can use to verify with ID.me.
Driver’s license
Your driver’s license must:
- Be valid and unexpired
- Include your full name and date of birth
- Match the information you enter during verification
You’ll need to upload both sides of your license.
State ID
You can use a state ID if you don't have a driver's license. It must meet the same requirements as a driver’s license.
Passport or passport card
Your passport or passport card must:
- Be valid and unexpired
- Clearly show your name, photo, and expiration date
When more documents are needed
Sometimes, you’ll need to upload more than one document to verify your identity and verify on a video call. This may happen if you:
- Have an expired driver’s license that’s been expired less than 12 months
- Live outside of the U.S.
- Have an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), instead of a Social Security number
- Only have a non-U.S. passport
In these cases, you’ll need to upload two primary documents, or one primary document and one secondary document. For details, visit Primary and secondary identity documents.
