Acumen and ID.me

Acumen works with ID.me to verify your identity. ID.me is a trusted technology partner to federal and state agencies, healthcare organizations, financial institutions, retailers, and nonprofits. This article explains how to use ID.me with Acumen.

Acumen requires that the email address on your Acumen account be on your ID.me Wallet.

How you begin depends on whether you already have an ID.me Wallet or need to create one for the first time. Select the appropriate tab below for step-by-step instructions.

Already have an ID.me Wallet?

Do not create another wallet if you already have one. Instead, you’ll need to:

  • Add your Acumen account email address to your ID.me Wallet
  • Sign in to Acumen and consent to share your verified identity information 

You may be required to provide additional information to verify your identity at a higher security standard depending on your previous verification method.

Add your Acumen account email and share your information

To add your Acumen account email and share your information: 

  1. Go to ID.me My Wallet and sign in.
  2. Select Profile, then in the Email section, select Add an email.

  3. Enter your Acumen account email address. If you want to label this email address as your “work” email, check the box next to “Work”.

  4. Select Send confirmation. A confirmation message will be sent to the newly added email address.

    Tip: If you don't receive the email, check your spam folder. You can select Resend confirmation to send a new confirmation email.
  5. Select the link in the email to confirm this email address.

After you have confirmed the email, it displays in the “Profile”.

Sign in and share your information

To access Acumen:

  1. Log in to your Acumen account and when prompted, select Verify with ID.me. 
  2. Sign in and complete multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  3. From the Authorize screen, review the information that Acumen will receive and then select Allow to consent to share that information with them.

Creating an ID.me wallet for the first time? 

If you have never created an ID.me Wallet, you need to: 

  • Create one using your personal email address
  • Add your Acumen account email to your ID.me Wallet
  • Verify your identity
     

To help ensure you always have access to your ID.me Wallet, create one using your personal email address, then add your Acumen account email. 

To create a new wallet:

  1. Go to ID.me My Wallet and select Create a wallet. 
  2. Enter your personal email address and a strong password, then select Create wallet. Learn how to create a strong password.
  3. Follow the prompts to finish setting up your ID.me Wallet and to confirm ownership of your email.

Add your Acumen account email to your ID.me Wallet

To add your Acumen account email:

  1. From My Wallet, select Profile, then in the Email section, select +Add an email.

  2. Enter your Acumen account email address. If you want to label this email address as your work email, check the box next to “Work”.

  3. Select Send confirmation. A confirmation message will be sent to the newly added email address.

    Tip: If you don’t receive the email, check your spam folder. You can select Resend confirmation to send a new confirmation email.
  4. Select the link in the email to confirm this email address.

After you have confirmed the email, it displays in the “Profile” tab.

Verify for Acumen

To verify your identity:

  1. Go to Acumen and log in to your account.
  2. When prompted, select Verify with ID.me, then sign in.

  3. Verify your identity. For step-by-step instructions, visit Verifying with Self-Service.

    Note: You may need to take certain steps if you don’t have a Social Security number. To learn more, visit Using your Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) to verify.

After ID.me verifies your identity, you will receive a confirmation message as a way to protect you from fraud.
