Documents you need to verify your identity with ID.me

To verify your identity with ID.me, you'll need at least one valid, government-issued photo ID. We accept 12,500+ documents from 230+ countries and territories, including driver's licenses, state IDs, passports, national and Tribal IDs, and permanent resident cards. If we can't verify your identity with just one document, we may ask for more. This article explains the documents you can use to verify with ID.me.

Driver’s license

Your driver’s license must:

Be valid and unexpired
Include your full name and date of birth
Match the information you enter during verification

You’ll need to upload both sides of your license.

Note: If your driver’s license is expired or temporary, you may still be able to verify through a video call.

State ID

You can use a state ID if you don't have a driver's license. It must meet the same requirements as a driver’s license.

Passport or passport card

Your passport or passport card must:

Be valid and unexpired
Clearly show your name, photo, and expiration date
Match the information you enter during verification

Tip: You can also verify with a non-U.S. passport.

National ID or Tribal ID

You can use a national ID card or a federally recognized Tribal-issued photo ID if you don't have a U.S. driver's license, state ID, or passport. It must:

Be valid and unexpired
Include your full name, date of birth, and photo
Match the information you enter during verification

Permanent resident card

You can use your U.S. Permanent resident card (Green Card) to verify your identity. It must:

Be valid and unexpired
Include your full name, date of birth, and photo
Match the information you enter during verification

We also accept Form I-551 or paper extension Form I-797A if it says "approved" or "notice of receipt."

Travel visa

You can use a travel visa to verify your identity. It must:

Be valid and unexpired
Include your full name, date of birth, photo, and visa/identification number
Include the full Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) code, if it's a machine-readable visa

When more documents are needed

Sometimes, you’ll need to upload more than one document to verify your identity and verify on a video call. This may happen if you:

Have an expired driver’s license that’s been expired less than 12 months
Live outside of the U.S.
Have an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), instead of a Social Security number
Only have a non-U.S. passport
