The North Carolina Division of Employment Security (NC DES) works with ID.me to verify claimants requesting benefits and services online. This article explains how to verify with ID.me for North Carolina’s DES.
Sign in to NC DES
If you already have an ID.me account, sign in to your account:
- Go to the NC DES website.
- Sign in to your MyNCUIBenefits account. If you do not have an NC DES account, you must create a new MyNCUIBenefits account.
- Validate your log-in by entering the “One-Time Passcode” NC DES sends to your email. After you select Validate, you should be redirected to the NC DES “Identity Verification” page.
- If prompted, select Verify with ID.me.
- Enter your email address and password, then select Sign in.
- From the Authorize screen, review the information that NC DES will receive and then select Allow to consent to share that information with them. Otherwise, follow the prompts to verify your identity.

Verify for NC DES
If you’ve never had an ID.me account, you’ll create an account before verifying your identity. After you create your account, you’ll choose how to verify:
- Self–Service: Upload your identity documents and a video selfie. This self-directed process usually takes 5-10 minutes and guides you through each step on your screen. For step-by-step instructions, visit Verifying your identity with Self-Service.
- Video Call: Upload your identity documents, enter your personal information, then join an ID.me Video Chat Agent on a video call. The agent will compare you to the document you uploaded. For step-by-step instructions, visit Verifying with a short video call.
After you verify
After you verify your ID.me account for NC DES, you can log in to your North Carolina DES account after consenting to share your information with NC DES. When prompted to verify your identity, select Verify with ID.me and enter your ID.me username and password.
If you verified over a video call with a Video Chat Agent, you must select Allow and continue to complete the process and continue with your application.
