Security Benefit works with ID.me to verify the identity of users registering for online access to their Security Benefit accounts. This article explains how to verify your identity for Security Benefit.

About identity verification

Verifying your identity with ID.me includes remote verification of physical IDs, mobile network operator (MNO) data, and fraud and compliance checks. ID.me uses machine vision, proprietary rules, a rich document library, and AI to determine authenticity of ID documents by scanning, parsing, and extracting content from driver's licenses, state IDs, and passports.

Once your identity has been verified by ID.me, you will be asked to share certain information with Security Benefit to access their site and services. Security Benefit will receive your first and last name, email address, and postal code. Documents and selfies are not shared.

Sign in to Security Benefit

If you already have an ID.me Wallet, sign in:

1. Add your Security Benefit email
   1. Go to the ID.me sign-in page and follow the prompts to sign in.
   2. Add the email that’s on your Security Benefit account to your ID.me Wallet. 
   3. Set the email as your primary email address.
2. Visit securitybenefit.com and select Sign in.
3. Sign in with your Security Benefit account, or select REGISTER YOUR ACCOUNT ONLINE, and follow the prompts to enter your information to create an account. 
4. Select Verify with ID.me.
5. From the Authorize screen, review the information that Security Benefit will receive, then select Allow to consent to share that information with them. Otherwise, follow the prompts to verify your identity.

I can’t sign in to my ID.me Wallet

Verify for Security Benefit

If you’ve never had an ID.me Wallet, you’ll create one before verifying your identity. You need to provide a valid ID document, like a driver’s license or passport, and either a phone number or a video selfie.

1. Visit securitybenefit.com and select Sign in.​​
2. Sign in with your Security Benefit account, or select REGISTER YOUR ACCOUNT ONLINE, and follow the prompts to enter your information to create an account. 
3. Select Verify with ID.me.

4. Create a new ID.me Wallet using the email that’s on your Security Benefit account. For step-by-step instructions, visit Create your ID.me Wallet.

   Note: The primary email on your ID.me Wallet must be the same email that’s on your Security Benefit account.
5. Select the photo ID document you’d like to upload: Driver’s license or state-issued ID, passport, or passport card.
6. Follow the prompts to take a photo of your document(s) using a mobile phone with a camera or upload photos from your device. For help uploading your document, visit Uploading documents.

8. From the Authorize screen, review the information that Security Benefit will receive, then select Allow to consent to share that information with them.

Troubleshoot Security Benefit

I couldn’t verify my identity

If you have trouble uploading your document, you may have the option to finish verifying on a video call with a Video Chat Agent. For step-by-step instructions, visit Verifying with an extended video call.

I want help using live chat

If you are unable to verify your wallet, or are having technical difficulties, you can chat with one of our Member Support agents. To access the Security Benefit live chat feature:

1. Open the ID.me chatbot by selecting the icon in the bottom right corner  of any Help Center page.
2. Enter “Security Benefit” in the chatbot window, then select Enter. 
3. Enter “Live Chat”, then select Enter.
4. Enter your information in the fields, then select Submit. 
5. Wait until a Member Support agent joins the chat.
