You can update your account’s email address by adding or deleting email addresses at any time. You can also change which email is primary and label emails on your account for personal or work use. This article explains how to update and manage your ID.me account email addresses.
Important:
- An email address can only be associated with one ID.me account. You cannot share your ID.me account with other people.
- Having multiple email addresses on your account makes it easier to access your account. You can sign in using any of your account email addresses, along with your account password.
Add email addresses to your account
To get started:
- Sign in to your ID.me account using your email address.
- From My Account, select Profile, then select +Add an email.
- Enter an email address you own that isn’t associated with any other ID.me account.
- Select Send confirmation. A confirmation message will be sent to the newly added email address.
Tip: If you don't receive the email, check your spam folder. To send a new confirmation email, select the three dots next to the email, then select Resend confirmation. - To finish adding your new email address, select the link in the confirmation email.
Set a primary email address
The primary email address on your account receives emails related to any verification issues you may have, and ID.me marketing emails, if you subscribed. The email address you used to create your ID.me account is, by default, your account’s primary email. If you have more than one email address on your account, you can choose which one is your primary email.
To set an email as your primary address:
- Sign into your ID.me account and select Profile.
- Under “Email”, find the email you’d like to set as the primary email address.
- Next to the email, select the three dots, then select Set as primary.
Remove email from a duplicate account
If you created a duplicate ID.me account using your work or other email address you own, you can remove the email from your duplicate account, then add it to your existing account. For step-by-step instructions, visit How to use an email address that’s on your duplicate account.
Label email addresses as personal or for work
You can label any email added to your account as being a work or personal email address.
To label an email as a work or personal email:
- Sign into your ID.me account and select Profile.
- Under “Email”, find your work or personal email address.
- Select the three dots, then select Edit.
- Check the box next to "Personal" or "Work", then select Save.
Delete an email address
You can remove an email address from your account by deleting it.
To delete an email address that’s not your primary email:
- Sign into your ID.me account and select Profile.
- Under “Email”, find the email you want to delete, then select the three dots.
- Select Delete , then select Delete to remove the email address.
To delete an email that’s set as your primary email:
- Add a new email address to your account.
- Set the new email as the primary email address.
- Next to the email you want to delete, select the three dots.
- Select Delete, then select Delete to remove the email address.
