Updating your account email address

You can add or delete email addresses in your account at any time. This article explains how to manage your ID.me account email addresses.

Important

  • An email address can only be associated with one ID.me account. You cannot share your ID.me account with other people.
  • Having multiple email addresses on your account makes it easier to access your account. You can sign in using any of your account email addresses, along with your account password.

Add an email address

  1. Sign in to your ID.me account.
  2. From My Account, select Manage Profile. 
  3. Select Add an email.

  4. Enter an email address you own, and select whether it is your personal or work email.
  5. Select Send confirmation. A confirmation message will be sent to the newly added email address.

    Tip: If you don't receive the email, check your spam folder. You can resend the verification if needed.
  6. To finish adding your new email address, select the link in the confirmation email.

Set a primary email address

Your primary email address receives important messages about verification and any ID.me marketing emails (if subscribed). By default, the email used to create your account is set as the primary email. If you have multiple email addresses, you can change which one is primary.

To set a primary email:

  1. Sign into your ID.me account and select Manage Profile.
  2. Under “Email”, find the email you’d like to set as primary.
  3. Select the three dots next to the email and select Set as primary.

Label email addresses as personal or work

You can label emails on your account as either personal or work-related. To label an email:

  1. Sign into your ID.me account and select Manage Profile.
  2. Under “Email”, find the email you want to label.
  3. Select the three dots next to the email, then select Edit.
  4. Check the box next to “Work”, “Personal”, or both.

Delete an email address

You can remove an email address from your account by deleting it. However, you must change your primary email before deleting a primary address. To delete a non-primary email:

  1. Sign into your ID.me account and select Manage Profile.
  2. Under “Email,” find the email you want to delete.
  3. Select the three dots and select Delete, then confirm by selecting Remove.

To delete a primary email:

  1. Add a new email address to your account.
  2. Set the new email as your primary.
  3. Next to the email you want to delete, select the three dots.
  4. Select Delete, then confirm by selecting Remove.

If you're unable to add an email because it’s associated with another account, follow the steps in Using the email I want when it's on another account.

I can’t confirm my email address

You’ll need to confirm your email to add it to your account. If you have trouble confirming it, visit Confirming your email address.
