To begin using ID.me, you’ll first need to create a wallet. This article explains how to sign up for ID.me, confirm your email, and set up a password.

How to create your ID.me Wallet

To create your ID.me Wallet:

1. Start at the website or organization where you need to use ID.me. If you’re not sure where to begin, contact the organization directly.
2. Select the ID.me button.
3. Select Create a wallet.
   
4. Enter your personal email address (double check for typos).
5. Enter a strong password, then select Create wallet.
   
6. Check your email inbox to confirm your email address.
7. Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA).

What happens after you create your wallet

After creating your ID.me Wallet, what happens next depends on whether the organization is actively using ID.me and whether you've already verified your identity or community.

• Look for the ID.me button on the organization's website that you want to access. If you don’t see the ID.me button on their website, it may not be available yet. Contact the organization directly for more information.
• Already verified? Sign in and give consent to share your verified information.
• Haven’t verified yet? You’ll be prompted to verify your identity or community.

Troubleshoot creating your wallet

Made a typo in your email address?

If you accidentally misspelled your email address in the email field, you won’t be able to finish creating your wallet. Start the wallet creation process over and carefully enter the correct email address.

What to do if you signed up on ID.me
