Your U.S. work authorization organizes a record of your work eligibility in the United States, built on your trusted identity. We create it using data you’ve shared with ID.me, including information from your identity documents, and store it in your ID.me Wallet. This helps you:
- Discover relevant resources available to you based on your immigration status
- Prove your authorization to work in the United States of America
- Prove your identity and citizenship for access to critical resources like frontier AI models
Work authorization information is currently available to select members. If you verified your identity before this feature became available, you may not see it in your Wallet. We plan to make this information available to more members over time.
You remain in control of how your data is shared. ID.me will not sell, rent, or trade your Personal Information. ID.me will only transfer your Personal Information with your consent to third parties in order to assist in verifying your identity or community eligibility, and as required for the prevention of fraud. We only share your information with government agencies when we're legally required to, such as in response to a subpoena or warrant. Visit our Privacy Policy to learn more.
What information is a part of your work authorization?
It may include:
- Whether you're authorized to work in the United States
- Your citizenship or permanent resident status
Your work authorization information is linked to you, not a specific employer. If you see something that’s incorrect, contact Support.
How work authorization is created
It is created automatically when you successfully verify your identity using one of these documents:
- U.S. passport
- Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
Other documents aren't supported at this time. We plan to support more documents for work authorization in the future.
How your work authorization could help with employment
When you start a new job, you and your employer must complete Form I-9 to confirm your identity and that you're authorized to work in the United States. You provide your information and documents, and your employer reviews them.
In the future, employers that work with ID.me may be able to use your work authorization information. This would make the process easier while limiting how often you need to share sensitive documents.
Can I delete my work authorization information?
You can't delete your work authorization on its own. We create it automatically to keep a record of your verified eligibility to work in the United States.
You can close your ID.me Wallet, but this affects your entire Wallet, not just your work authorization. We may keep some of your information after you close your Wallet, as described in our Privacy Policy.
You control whether you share your information and who you share it with. We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
