Fix problems after merging your IDMe Wallets

If you recently merged two IDMe Wallets and are now having trouble signing in, or other issues, this article can help. You’ll learn who can merge wallets, what to expect after merging, and how to fix common issues like sign-in confusion or error messages.

Who can merge IDMe Wallets?

You can only merge wallets if you see a 'Merge wallets' button. Not everyone has this option, and IDMe Support cannot merge wallets for you.

Common issues after merging wallets

Use any email linked to your merged wallet

After merging your wallets, you can sign in using any of the email addresses. If you need to add or remove emails, visit Change your IDMe email address.

Use your most recent password after merging

After your wallets are merged, sign in using the password you used when creating your most recent wallet. You can use any email address on your wallet to begin a password reset. If you can’t remember the password, reset your password to regain access.

Fix sign-in errors after merging

If you receive an error message after signing in or verifying with IDMe at an organization, it could be due to a name mismatch between your IDMe Wallet and the organization’s records. Here's how to fix it:

  1. Go to My Wallet.
  2. Ensure your wallet shows your current legal name.

Remove unrecognized emails or MFA methods

You should only keep emails and phone numbers on your wallet that you have access to. If there are any emails or phone numbers you don’t recognize, follow the steps below.

Remove an email

  1. Go to My Wallet.
  2. Select Profile.
  3. Delete the unrecognized email.
Note: You must always have at least one email address on your wallet. For instructions to remove or add an email, visit Change your IDMe email address.

Remove a phone number or MFA method

  1. Go to My Wallet.
  2. Select the “Sign In & Security” tab.

Select the trash can icon next to the unrecognized MFA method.

Note: You must always have at least one MFA method on your wallet. Before you remove an unwanted number or MFA method, add a new MFA method.
