Confirming your email address ensures that you are the owner of the email address you provide to ID.me.
This article explains how to confirm your email address and what to do if you can’t confirm it.
Confirm your email
ID.me may send you an email confirmation when:
- Creating your account
- Adding a new email address to your account
- Resetting your multi-factor authentication (MFA)
To confirm your email:
- Go to your email inbox and find the confirmation email from hello@id.me.
- In the confirmation email, select Confirm your email.
- After confirming your email, follow the prompts on the screen.
Troubleshoot email confirmation
I didn’t receive a confirmation email
- Check your spam and junk folders
- Add ID.me to contacts: To avoid missing future emails, add hello@id.me to your email contacts list.
- Resend confirmation email: If you have the "Confirm Your Email Address" window open, select Resend my verification. If not, sign in again to resend the email.
The “Confirm your email” button didn’t work
If the “Confirm your email” button in the confirmation email doesn’t work:
- Enter the 6-digit code: Copy the 6-digit code from the confirmation email, then paste the code into the “Confirm Your Email Address” screen.
- Troubleshoot your browser: Clear your browser’s cache and cookies, update your browser to the latest version, or use a different browser.
My confirmation link expired
Confirmation links expire 15 minutes after the email is sent. If your link has expired:
- Request a new link: Go back to the organization’s website and sign in to your account to try again.
- Email client issues: If you're using a service like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird, try signing in to your email directly through a web browser.
I requested multiple confirmation emails
If you’ve requested multiple confirmation emails:
- Wait 5 minutes: Allow at least 5 minutes between requests.
- Use the most recent link: Make sure to delete older emails and only use the most recent link to confirm your email.
I made a typo in my email address
If you accidentally misspelled your email address when creating your account, you won’t be able to confirm your email. Restart the process and carefully enter the correct email address.
