Verify for the first time with your new legal name
If you’re verifying for the first time, use your new legal name. Your primary document–driver’s license, state ID, passport, or passport card–must show your new name. If your document doesn’t have your new name, you cannot verify using that name.
Legal name change on video calls
If you’re verifying on a video call, you must submit a primary document that shows your new legal name. If your primary document doesn’t include your new name, you cannot verify using that name.
You may be asked to upload additional secondary documents. If your secondary documents have your previous name, you can submit a linking document that connects your new and previous names.
Acceptable linking documents
Linking documents prove that your legal name changed. Acceptable linking documents include:
- Marriage certificates
- Domestic partnership documents
- Dissolution of marriage
- Legal name change documents
- Adoption papers
If your name changed more than once, you must provide a separate linking document for each change.
