What to know before closing your ID.me Wallet
- Reuse an email address: After closing your wallet, you can use the same email address to create a new one or add it to an existing wallet. However, none of the data from your previous wallet will be recoverable, and you will need to provide all necessary information if you want to re-verify your identity.
- Government benefits and services: If you are in the process of verifying your identity for government benefits, closing your wallet may interrupt the verification process and cause delays in your application.
Steps to close your ID.me Wallet
To close your wallet:
- Sign in.
- In the top menu, select Sign In & Security, then select Privacy.
- Under “Manage my data,” select Remove my data.
- Select Close my wallet.
- Select Continue.
- Select a reason for closing your wallett, then select Yes, close my wallet.
After you close it
ID.me may retain your personal information for up to three years. For more details, refer to the ID.me Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
FAQs about closing your wallet
My wallet was revoked
After you close your ID.me Wallet, it enters a revoked status. Your profile information will be deleted within 7 days. If you’d like to reinstate it during that time:
- Go to the ID.me Contact Support page.
- Select Start Chat.
- In the chat, enter that your wallet is revoked, then answer the questions.
If you no longer want your wallet after it’s revoked, no action is required. Your revoked wallet will be fully removed within 7 days of the date that you closed it.
Can I close a suspended wallet?

Will I get my Cash Back balance after closing my wallet?
Yes, if your balance is over $10, it will be automatically paid to your PayPal account during the next payout cycle.
