It’s important that the name on your ID.me profile is spelled correctly and reflects your current legal name. If you change your legal name, or if there’s a typo in your name, you can update your name in your account settings.
Fix a typo in your name
If there’s a typo or mistake in your name, make sure to update it. If you’re prompted to upload a document, you may need a U.S. driver’s license, U.S. passport, state ID card, or other government-issued photo ID. To fix a typo in your name:
- Sign in to your ID.me account.
- In your account overview, select Profile.
- In the “Personal Profile” section, next to “Name,” select Update.
- Select Edit an error in my name.
-
Update the name field(s) with your correct legal name
The name fields will be pre-populated with the current information in your account. For example, if your last name is misspelled, delete what’s in the “Last Name” field, enter the correct name, then select, then select Continue. - Consent to the ID.me Privacy Policy.
- If requested, upload a photo of your driver’s license, state ID, passport card, or passport.
- Select Continue to submit your request.
After submitting your name correction, ID.me Support will review it and send you an email confirmation once it's approved. This typically takes up to three business days, but may take longer during high request volumes.
