You may need to take specific steps to verify your identity if you don’t live in the United States or if you don’t have a US phone number, address, or Social Security Number.
We recommend verifying on a video call with an ID.me Video Chat Agent. To do this, you must first begin the self-service identity verification process. When you are prompted to choose a verification method, you can select a link to indicate you live outside of the US. This article explains how to verify if you live outside of the US or don’t have US-specific information.

Verify if you live outside the US
To verify your identity:
- Find the ID.me partner you’d like to verify for and begin verification using the self-service method.
- During the verification process, select the appropriate link, if available:
- I don’t live in the United States.
- I don’t have a U.S. phone number
- I don’t have a U.S. address
- I don’t have a SSN
- Enter your personal information.
- Enter your Social Security number.
- If you don’t have a Social Security number, select I don’t have a Social Security number and enter your passport information.
- If you don’t have an SSN or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), select I don’t have a Social Security number, then upload your passport and enter your passport number.
