The Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) works with ID.me to verify Virginia residents requesting benefits and services online.
ID.me provides secure digital identity verification to government agencies and other organizations to make sure you are you—and not someone pretending to be you. This article explains how to verify your identity for VEC.
Already have an ID.me account?
If you are an existing ID.me member, do not create another account. Instead, sign in to the VEC and consent to share your verified identity information.
- Go to the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) UI Direct Login Page and select Sign in with ID.me,
- Sign in with your ID.me account and complete multi-factor authentication (MFA).
- If required, follow the prompts to provide any additional information.
- From the Authorize screen, review the information that the VEC will receive and then select Allow to consent to share that information with them.
Are you creating an ID.me account for the first time?
If you do not have an ID.me account, you must create an account using your personal email and then verify your identity to access the VEC. You only need to verify your identity once—then you can use your ID.me account to log in at VEC and anywhere else ID.me is accepted.

How to verify in person
Bring your registration code (QR code or 25-character code) and 2-3 identity documents with you to your appointment. To verify in person:
- When you arrive, find the technician who will help you verify your identity in person. They are trained to confirm your identity documents are valid, that your documents belong to you, and that your documents match the information you enter.
- Go to the kiosk and scan the QR code from your confirmation email or if you printed it out.
- Follow the remaining on-screen prompts, including taking a selfie and submitting photos of your documents. After the technician confirms your documents are valid, an ID.me document reviewer will validate your documents.
- Wait to receive a confirmation email from ID.me.
4. Share your information
To complete the verification process, remember to consent to share your information with VEC. How you do this depends on the verification method you use:
- Self-Service: After you confirm your information, select Allow to share your information.
- Video Chat Agent: Follow the steps in the email you receive after the video call to make sure you share your information with VEC. You’ll need to return to the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) UI Direct Login Page, sign in to your ID.me account, and select Allow.
- In-person: After you receive an email confirming your identity was verified, return to VEC and sign in to your ID.me account. When prompted, select Allow to share your information.
