When verifying your identity for the IRS using either Self-Service or a video call, you can switch to a different verification method at any point in the process. Follow the steps below to switch methods and continue your verification.
To switch verification methods:
- Close your browser window
At any point during the verification process on a mobile browser, close your browser window by tapping the tabs icon and swiping away the current window. If you’re on a desktop, select the "X" in the corner of the screen. - Exit the video call (if applicable)
If you selected the video call method and are waiting for a Video Chat Agent, select Save & Exit to leave. You can ignore any emails from ID.me related to the video call. - Open a new window in your browser.
- Go to the IRS application login page and select Sign in with ID.me.
- Use your same email and password
Enter the same email and password associated with your ID.me account, then complete multi-factor authentication (MFA). - Continue with your preferred verification method
Once signed in, select your preferred verification method to continue.
