When verifying your identity for the IRS using Self-Service or a video call, you can switch to a different verification method at any point during the process. To do this, close your browser window and sign in to the IRS with the same email and password associated with your ID.me account. Below is what the beginning of the verification process looks like. This article explains how to switch verification methods when verifying for the IRS.
Switch verification methods
To switch verification methods:
- Close your browser window at any point by selecting the X in the corner.
- If you chose the video call method and you’re waiting for a Video Chat Agent, select Save & Exit to leave. Ignore any emails ID.me may send you.
- Open a new window in your browser
- Go to the IRS application login page, then select Sign in with ID.me.
- Use the same email and password associated with your ID.me account to sign in, then follow the prompts to complete MFA.
- Continue with your preferred verification method.
Note: Do not create more than one ID.me account; this will result in complications with both accounts.
