First Advantage (formerly Sterling) works with ID.me to verify candidates as part of their employment background check. The role of ID.me is exclusively regarding identity verification; ID.me does not conduct background checks. This article explains how to verify your identity for First Advantage.
Sign in to First Advantage with ID.me
If you already have an ID.me account, sign in to your account:
- From the identity verification email you received from First Advantage, select Click here to begin.
- When prompted, select the ID.me button.
- Follow the prompts to sign in to your ID.me account.
- If required, follow the prompts to provide any additional information.
- From the Authorize screen, review the information that First Advantage will receive and then select Allow to consent to share that information with them. Otherwise, follow the prompts to verify your identity.

Verify your identity for First Advantage
If you don’t already have an ID.me account, you’ll create one before verifying your identity.

After you verify
After you’re verified, go back to First Advantage and sign in with your ID.me account. On the Authorize screen, review the information the organization will receive and select Allow to consent to share the information and access the application.
