Sterling works with ID.me to verify candidates as part of their employment background check. The role of ID.me is exclusively regarding identity verification; ID.me does not conduct background checks. This article explains how to verify your identity for Sterling.
Sign in to Sterling
If you already have an ID.me account, sign in to your account:
- From the identity verification email you received from Sterling, select Click here to begin.
- When prompted, select the ID.me button.
- Enter your email address and password, then select Sign in.
- If required, follow the prompts to provide any additional information.
- From the Authorize screen, review the information that Sterling will receive and then select Allow to consent to share that information with them. Otherwise, follow the prompts to verify your identity.

Verify for Sterling
If you’ve never had an ID.me account, you’ll create an account before verifying your identity.

After you verify
After you’re verified, go back to Sterling and sign in with your ID.me account to consent to sharing your information and access the application. This step securely shares your identity information with Sterling.
- Review the details and make sure they are correct. If you see something that is incorrect, you can change it by selecting Edit.
- After confirming your information is correct, select Continue.
- Select Allow to share your information with Sterling.
