If you see a message like “You have an existing ID.me Wallet” or “Duplicate wallet,” it means you've already verified your identity with a different ID.me wallet. You can only have one verified wallet. This article explains how to sign in to your verified wallet, fix sign-in issues, or merge wallets if the option is available.
Can I merge my ID.me Wallets?
You can only merge wallets if you see a 'Merge wallets' button. Not everyone has this option, and ID.me Support cannot merge wallets for you.
- If you see the Merge wallets button and recognize the email, select it and follow the prompts.
- If you don’t see the option, continue to the next section to sign in with your verified wallet.
How to sign in with your verified wallet
If you get a ‘You have an existing ID.me wallet’ message, sign in to your verified wallet:

Check the email hint on the screen
Does it match an email you’ve used before (work, personal, school, etc.)? This is the email you need to sign in with. - If you recognize the email, select Sign in with the existing wallet.
- Enter the email address from the email hint, then your password.
- Select Continue and follow the prompts.
I can’t sign in to my verified wallet
- Lost access to your email? Visit Signing in if you can’t access the email address on your wallet.
- Changed your phone number? Visit I changed my phone number.
- Not sure what the sign-in issue is? Visit I can’t sign in to my ID.me Wallet.
I want to use the email on my other wallet
Do you want to use the email from your other (non-verified) wallet on your verified wallet? Follow the steps in Close a duplicate ID.me Wallet to reuse your email.
I keep getting the "You have an existing wallet" message
This usually means you’re signed in to your other (non-verified) wallet and trying to verify again. To fix it:
- Select Return to sign in or go to the ID.me sign-in page.
- Enter the email address that was shown in the ‘You have an existing wallet’ email hint, then select Continue.
- Enter your password, select Continue, then follow the prompts.
I don’t recognize the email address
If you don’t recognize the email in the email hint, or don’t remember creating the verified wallet, Contact ID.me Support.
