The Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) works with ID.me to create a highly secure identity verification process that ensures you—and only you—will be able to access your benefits. ID.me’s role in this partnership is exclusively regarding identity verification. This article explains how to verify your identity for Iowa Workforce Development.
Sign in to IWD
If you already have an ID.me Wallet, sign in:
- Go to IowaWORKS, select Sign in / Register, and sign in to your IowaWORKs account.
- After signing in, choose one of the following options (each requires identity verification):
- File a Claim: To file a new unemployment claim
- Weekly Claim Certification: To file your weekly certification
- Update Banking Information: To change your unemployment payment method
- When prompted, select Verify with ID.me. You’ll be redirected to the ID.me sign-in page.
- Follow the prompts to sign in.
From the Authorize screen, review the information that IWD will receive and select Allow to consent to share that information with them. Otherwise, follow the prompts to verify your identity.

Verify for IWD
If you’ve never had an ID.me Wallet, you’ll create one before verifying your identity. After you create your Wallet, you’ll choose how to verify:
- Self–Service: Upload your identity documents and a video selfie. This self-directed process usually takes 5-10 minutes and guides you through each step on your screen. For step-by-step instructions, visit Verifying your identity with Self-Service.
- Video Call: Upload your identity documents, enter your personal information, then join an ID.me Video Chat Agent on a video call. The agent will compare you to the document you uploaded. For step-by-step instructions, visit Verifying with a short video call.
- In Person: Book an appointment and bring your identity documents and 'Registration Code' to an Identity Network Location at your scheduled time. If you choose the walk-in option, you can visit at your convenience. For step-by-step instructions, visit Verifying your identity in person.
