ID.me verifies your personal identity for accessing the Information Returns Intake System (IRIS), whether for personal or professional use. After verifying your identity, you can apply for a Transmitter Control Code (TCC) to e-file Forms 1099 through IRIS. You can also access the website and interact on behalf of the business you are representing.
This article explains how to verify your identity and access the IRIS Taxpayer Portal.
Access the IRIS application for TCC
- Go to the IRIS Taxpayer Portal.
- Select Access IRIS Application for TCC.
- Sign in to your existing ID.me account or create a new account.
Tip: If you need to verify your identity, visit IRS and ID.me. - Complete multi-factor authentication (MFA) or add MFA to protect your account.
- Consent to share your information with IRIS.
Note: If you are using ID.me for work, follow the steps in setting up your ID.me account for work to make sure you have both a work and personal email on your account.
Apply for your transmitter control code
After you sign in to your ID.me account and verify your identity, you can apply for a TCC. Before applying, review the IRIS App Tutorial, which provides step-by-step instructions for applying for an IRIS TCC.
TCC application tips
- Verify all Authorized Users listed on the application have an ID.me account before you sign the application. If you don't, you will receive an error message: “All users must register with e-Services before your application can be submitted” when an unregistered user exists. It may take up to 72 hours for a new account to be recognized by the application.
- On the ‘Select Your Organization’ page, select the ‘Individual’ option each time the application is accessed until the application is in ‘Completed’ status.
- Monitor the ‘TCC Information’ section on the ‘Application Summary’ page for TCC assignment.
- Wait for the application to be in ‘Completed’ status before making updates. Editing the application when it is in ‘Signature Required’ status, in some cases, will lock the application.
- Update your ‘Application Details’ page if you discover you selected the wrong role or transmission method (Issuer vs. Transmitter or Portal vs. A2A). Do not submit a request for an additional TCC on the 'Application Summary’ page.
