At ID.me, we are committed to ensuring that our identity verification platform is accessible to everyone. Our products are built with accessibility as a core principle and are designed to comply with the accessibility requirements set forth in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

This article provides guidance and tips to help individuals who are blind or have low vision complete the verification process. 

Before you verify

1. Update your browser

Use the latest version of your web browser. For help updating your browser, visit Updating your web browser. 

2. Update your assistive technology programs

Ensure your screen reader, screen magnifier, and/or any other assistive technologies you use to access the web are updated to their latest versions.

Verify with Self-Service 

For individuals who are blind or have low vision, we recommend starting with our Self-Service method. To verify you need to use a smartphone that has a camera. 

Self-Service allows you to verify your identity by uploading an identity document and taking a video selfie. This self-directed process lets you complete your identity verification independently and at your own pace, whenever it's most convenient for you.

Document tips

You need to upload documents from your smartphone. It’s not possible to upload documents from a computer in Self-Service. 

If your document photos aren’t accepted, you will be prompted to upload another photo. You are welcome to ask someone for assistance in taking document photos, if needed. 

Tips to take a high-quality document photo:

• The document photo is taken straight on, instead of at an angle
• The document is placed on a dark surface
• The position of the camera matches the orientation of the document
• The photo is free of any other objects
• The entire document is visible, including all four corners
• The image is clear instead of blurry

Selfie tips

You need to take a selfie using your smartphone. It’s not possible to take selfies from a computer. 

Tips to take a high-quality selfie:

• The smartphone is held at arm’s length, directly in front of the person's face. 
• The person's face is fully visible; not covered by clothing, a mask, or dark sunglasses. 
• There are no objects or visual clutter in the background, like decorations or furniture.
• Natural light or light from a lamp is in front of the person taking the selfie. Too much light may cause glare.

If the selfie isn’t accepted, you’ll be guided to retake your selfie or prompted to join a short video call. You are welcome to ask someone for assistance in taking the live selfie, if needed. Contact support if you’d like more help.

Verify on a video call 

Our Video Call method enables you to verify your identity by uploading an identity document, and joining an ID.me Video Chat Agent on a video call where they’ll compare you to the photo on your document.

Video call tips

• For optimal video call quality, we recommend connecting your smartphone to Wi-Fi whenever possible. 
• If you receive a prompt asking that meet.id.me would like to access the microphone and camera, select Allow.

Contact ID.me Support

If you have any trouble verifying your identity, contact ID.me Support:

1. Go to the ID.me Contact Support page.
2. There are two ways to contact Support:
   • Sign in to submit a ticket: Sign in if you have access to your ID.me Wallet. This allows our agents to quickly identify you, and helps keep your wallet secure.
   • Recover your wallet with chat: Start a chat if you are unable to sign in to your ID.me Wallet or don’t have an ID.me Wallet.
3. Provide details for where in the process you are having trouble. Please tell us if you have specific accessibility questions or have feedback on how we can do better.
