You can use your ID.me Wallet to log in to Medicare.gov. If you already verified your identity with ID.me, you don’t need to verify again.
Log in to Medicare.gov using ID.me
- Go to Medicare.gov.
- Select Log in.
- Select the ID.me button.

If you have an ID.me Wallet, enter your email address and password. Otherwise, create a wallet.
Tip: Already have a Wallet? Don’t create a new one. For help signing in, visit I can’t sign in to my ID.me Wallet - Complete or set up multi-factor authentication.
- Follow the prompts to share your information and verify your identity.
If you already verified your identity
If you verified your identity for another organization with the same requirements as Medicare.gov, you don’t need to verify again. Not sure? Follow the prompts. We’ll let you know if you need to verify.
After you sign in:
- Review the information Medicare.gov will receive.
- Select Allow to share your information.
Then we'll return you to Medicare.gov.
If you’re asked to verify your identity
You may need to verify your identity if:
- You’re new to ID.me
- You haven’t verified before
- We need more information
You can verify your identity one of these ways:
- Self-Service (online)
- In-person
Self-Service verification
This option usually takes 5–10 minutes.
What you need:
- A smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera
- A U.S. phone number
- Your Social Security number. You need an SSN to verify your identity with ID.me for Medicare.gov
- A government-issued photo ID, like your driver’s license, state ID, passport or passport card
Steps to verify online
- Select the type of photo ID you want to use.
- Follow the prompts to upload a photo of your ID. Make sure your ID is clear and easy to read.
- Select Continue.
- Follow the prompts to take a short video selfie.
- Enter your personal information, including:
- Social Security number
- Address
- Phone number
- Review your information to make sure it’s correct.
After you finish:
- Review the information Medicare.gov will receive.
- Select Allow to share your information.
Then we'll return you to Medicare.gov.
If Self-Service doesn’t work
If we’re not able to verify your identity online, you can verify your identity on a video call with an ID.me agent. To verify on a video call, you will:
- Enter your personal information.
- Upload your identity documents.
- Wait for your documents to be reviewed and approved.
- Join a video call with an ID.me agent.
- Show your documents during the call.
The agent will confirm your information and complete your verification. After your verification is approved:
- Go back to Medicare.gov.
- Select Log in.
- Select the ID.me button.
- Sign in and select Allow to share your information.
In-person verification
You can also verify your identity in person.
You’ll need to:
- Schedule an appointment or visit a participating location.
- Bring your identity documents.
- Bring your registration code, if provided.
