Tab switching overview
If you’re required to upload documents or a selfie during the verification process, you’ll need to take steps on two different browser tabs: the original tab, where you started verification; and on the second tab, where you upload documents or take a selfie.
1. Begin verification in the original tab
The original tab is where you start the verification process. This could be on a computer or a smartphone.
When following the steps to verify, you may be prompted to enter your phone number. After you enter your phone number, ID.me sends you a text message. At this point, the original tab you have open will say “Waiting for your photos.” Keep this tab open so you can return to it later.
2. Upload your documents or selfie in a new tab or device
When you select the link in the text message, a new browser tab opens on your smartphone. After you upload and submit the documents or selfie, you’ll see a screen that says “Return to the other open browser tab to continue.”
3. Return to the original tab or device
You’ll go back to the original browser tab or device where you began verification, then follow the steps to complete verification.
