If you recently merged two ID.me Wallets and are now having trouble signing in, or other issues, this article can help. You’ll learn who can merge wallets, what to expect after merging, and how to fix common issues like sign-in confusion or error messages.
Who can merge ID.me Wallets?
You can only merge wallets if you see a 'Merge wallets' button. Not everyone has this option, and ID.me Support cannot merge wallets for you.
- If you see the Merge accounts button and recognize the email, select it and follow the prompts.
- No merge option available? Go to What to do if you have multiple ID.me Wallets.
Common issues after merging wallets
Use any email linked to your merged wallet
After merging your wallets, you can sign in using any of the email addresses. If you need to add or remove emails, visit Change your ID.me email address.
Use your most recent password after merging
After your wallets are merged, sign in using the password you used when creating your most recent wallet. You can use any email address on your wallet to begin a password reset. If you can’t remember the password, reset your password to regain access.
Fix sign-in errors after merging
If you receive an error message after signing in or verifying with ID.me at an organization, it could be due to a name mismatch between your ID.me Wallet and the organization’s records. Here's how to fix it:
- Go to My Wallet.
- Ensure your wallet shows your current legal name.
- If your name is incorrect, request an update to correct your name.
- If all your information is accurate, contact the organization you’re trying to access for further assistance.
Remove unrecognized emails or MFA methods
You should only keep emails and phone numbers on your wallet that you have access to. If there are any emails or phone numbers you don’t recognize, follow the steps below.
Remove an email
- Go to My Wallet.
- Select Manage Profile.
- Delete the unrecognized email.
Remove a phone number or MFA method
- Go to My Wallet.
- Select the “Sign In & Security” tab.
Select the trash can icon next to the unrecognized MFA method.
