Changing your account email address

You can change the email address on your ID.me account at any time. It’s important to have access to your account’s email address so you can manage your account. We also recommend adding a secondary email address, in case you lose access to your primary email. This article explains how to set a primary email address, add secondary addresses, and how to delete an email address.

What to know

• An email address can only be associated with one ID.me account. You cannot share your ID.me account with other people or have more than one verified account.
• Your primary email address is, by default, the email address you used when creating your ID.me account. Other email addresses added to your account are secondary email addresses.
• You can sign in to your ID.me account using your primary or secondary email address and your account password.

Add secondary email address

A secondary email address can help ensure you always have access to your ID.me account. You must add a secondary email address before you can change your primary email address. If you created an ID.me account using your work email, we recommend adding a secondary email, such as a personal email address.

To add a secondary email address:

1. Sign in to your ID.me account.
2. Select PROFILE.
3. Under “Email”, select +Add Email, then enter the email address you want to add.
4. Select Send verification. A confirmation message will be sent to the new email address.
   Tip: If you don’t receive the email, check your spam folder. You can select Resend verification to send a new confirmation email.
5. Select the link in the email to confirm this email address.
6. In the “PROFILE” tab in your account, the new email address will display.

Change your primary email address

If you add a secondary email address to your account, you can set one as the primary email address. The primary email address for your ID.me account is, by default, the email address you used to create your account. You need access to this email address to reset your password and update your MFA method.

To change your primary email address, you must first add a secondary email address.

To change your primary email address:

1. Sign into your ID.me account.
2. Select PROFILE.
3. Under “Email”, find the email you want to set as the primary email address, then select Make Primary.

Delete email addresses

If you set up a secondary email address, you can delete it, as long as it’s not set as your primary email address.

To delete a secondary email address:

1. Sign into your ID.me account.
2. Select PROFILE.
3. Under “Email”, find the email you want to delete, then select the trash can icon.
4. Select Delete to remove the email address.
