You can change, add, or delete email addresses linked to your ID.me Wallet at any time. This article explains how to update your email address, set a default email, and fix common email issues.
Add a new email address
- Go to ID.me My Wallet and sign in.
- Select Profile, then in the Email section, select Add an email.
- Enter an email address you own, and select whether it is your personal or work email.

Select Add email. A confirmation code is set to your email address.
Tip: If you don't receive the email, check your spam folder. You can resend the verification if needed. - Enter the code to verify your email.
Change your default email
Your default email address receives important messages about your ID.me Wallet and verification. If you've signed up for marketing emails, it also receives those messages.
The email address you used to create your wallet is your default email. If you've added more than one email address to your account, you can change which one is your default.
To set a default email:
- Go to ID.me My Wallet and sign in.
- Select Profile, then in the Email section, find the email you’d like to set as default.
- Select the three dots next to the email and select Set as default. If you haven't verified the email address, a code will be sent to verify.
Mark an email as personal or work
You can mark emails on your wallet as either personal or work:
- Go to ID.me My Wallet and sign in.
- Select Profile, then in the Email section, find the email you want to label.
- Select either "Work" or "Personal" from the Use for drop-down menu.
Remove or delete an email address
You can remove an email address from your ID.me Wallet by deleting it.
Important: You cannot delete your default email address. If you want to remove your default email, first add another email address and set it as your default.
To delete an email address:
- Go to ID.me My Wallet and sign in.
- Select Profile, then in the Email section, find the email you want to renive
- If the email is your default email, add another email address and set it as your default before continuing.
- Select the three dots next to the email address.
- Select Delete.
- Confirm by selecting Delete.
Fix problems adding your email
My email is associated with another wallet
If you're unable to add an email because it’s associated with another wallet, follow the steps in Close a duplicate ID.me Wallet to reuse your email.

I can’t confirm my email address
