Verify with IDMe as a California physician or medical provider for EDD

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) works with IDMe to verify your identity and status as a physician or practitioner so you can certify disability and family leave care claims for your patients.

This article explains how to verify your identity as a physician or practitioner.

Note: If you’re verifying your identity as a disability claimant, visit California disability and family leave benefits and IDMe.

Verify for California EDD

You can verify your identity using Self-Service or on a video call with an IDMe agent:

Self-Service

Upload a driver’s license, state ID, passport, or passport card and then take a selfie. This self-directed process guides you through each step on your screen, allowing you to complete your identity verification independently and at your own pace.

For steps to verify, visit Verifying your identity with Self-Service.

Video Call

Upload a government-issued photo ID, enter your personal information, then join a video call with a live agent. The agent then compares you to your identity document.

For steps to verify, visit Verifying with a short video call.

Medical verification

Once you have completed the identity verification process, you will be prompted to verify your medical provider status. To verify as a medical provider, you'll need to provide your National Provider Identifier (NPI) credentials. On the Medical page, select Continue to verify yourself as a medical provider.

If you verified on a video call, you will need to go back to myedd.edd.ca.gov/s/login to continue your verification.

  1. Follow the “How to verify” steps 1-5 above and sign in with your IDMe account.
  2. On the Authorize California EDD page select Allow to share your information with the EDD.
  3. Return to SDI Online and complete your registration form, then select Submit.
