You must get your Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). ID.me does not process or handle IP PIN requests. As a technology provider, ID.me only provides identity verification for IRS applications.
Get your IP PIN
To get your IP PIN from the IRS:
- Go to the IRS IP PIN page.
- Select Get an IP PIN.
- Sign in to your ID.me account. If you haven’t verified, you can verify for the IRS using Self-Service or with an ID.me Video Chat Agent. If you’re unable to verify your identity with ID.me, there are alternative options to access this information.
- After you are signed in, select Continue.
- Your IP PIN will be located at the top of the screen
Don't share your IP PIN with anyone other than your tax preparer.
For questions about IP PINs, visit the IRS IP PIN page or contact the IRS.
