The New Jersey Department of Laborworks with ID.me to provide login and identity verification for New Jersey residents requesting benefits and services online. This article explains how to create your ID.me account and verify your identity.
I’m new to ID.me
To access the NJDOL Unemployment Insurance Benefits online, you’ll need to:
- Create an ID.me account using your personal email address
- Add the email address on your NJDOL application (if different from your personal address)
- Add MFA to protect your account and verify your identity
- Consent to share your identity information with NJDOL
You only need to verify your identity once—then you can use your ID.me log in at NJDOL and anywhere else ID.me is accepted.
Create an ID.me account
To help ensure you always have access to your ID.me account, we recommend creating your ID.me account using your personal email address. Once your account is set up and the email address on your NJDOL application is associated with your ID.me account, you can verify your identity. To create a new account:
- Go to ID.me and select Create an ID.me account.
- Enter your personal email address and a strong password, then select Create account. Learn how to create a strong password.
- Follow the prompts to finish setting up your ID.me account and to confirm ownership of your email.
Add your NJDOL Application email address
To successfully verify your identity for NJDOL, the email address on your NJDOL application is associated with both NJDOL and ID.me.
- Select your name from the navigation bar, select My Account, and then select Profile.
- Under “Email,” select + Add Email, then enter your work email address.
- Select Send verification. A confirmation message will be sent to your work email address.
Tip: If you don’t receive the email, check your spam folder. You can select Resend verification to send a new confirmation email. - Select the link in the email to confirm this email address.
After you have confirmed the email, it displays in the “Profile” tab of your account. You can now verify your identity.

How to verify in person
Bring your registration code (QR code or 25-character code) and 2-3 identity documents with you to your appointment. To verify in person:

- Go to the kiosk and scan the QR code from your confirmation email or if you printed it out.
- Follow the remaining on-screen prompts, including taking a selfie and submitting photos of your documents. After the technician confirms your documents are valid, an ID.me document reviewer will validate your documents.
- Wait to receive a confirmation email from ID.me.
