You may encounter one of the following error messages:
- “This email is already registered with another ID.me account.”
- “Email not added: This email could not be added because it is either invalid, already associated with another account, or you've attempted to add too many emails within a short period of time.”
Fix duplicate email errors
How you fix a duplicate email error depends on what you were trying to do that led to the error. Find the scenario that applies to you:
I tried to add an email to my existing account
To fix this error:
- Close your duplicate account to make the email available. For step-by-step instructions, visit Removing an email address from a duplicate account. After you close the account, sign in to your existing account and add the email address.
- Alternatively, you can add a different email address to your existing account if you have an email that’s different from the one that caused the error.
I tried to create a new account
To fix this error you will need to use your existing ID.me account. To sign in:
- Go to the ID.me sign-in page.
- Enter your email and password.
- Sign in to your account.

I can’t sign in to my existing account

- Go to the ID.me sign-in page and select Forgot password.
- Enter your account email address.
