However, none of the data from your previous account will be recoverable, and you will need to provide all necessary information if you want to re-verify your identity.
- Government benefits and services: If you are in the process of verifying your identity for government benefits, closing your account may interrupt the verification process and cause delays in your application.
Steps to close your ID.me account
To close your account:
- Sign in to your ID.me account.
- In the top menu, select Sign In & Security, then select Privacy.
- Under “Manage my data,” select Remove my data.
- Select Close my account.
- Select Continue.
- Select a reason for closing your account, then select Yes, close my account.
After you close your account
ID.me may retain your personal information for up to three years. For more details, refer to the ID.me Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

My account was revoked
After you close your ID.me account, it enters a revoked status. Your profile information will be deleted within 7 days. If you’d like to reinstate it during that time:
- Go to the ID.me Contact Support page.
- Select Start Chat.
- In the chat, enter that your account is revoked, then answer the questions.
If you no longer want your account after it’s revoked, no action is required. Your revoked account will be fully removed within 7 days of the date that you closed it.
Can I close a suspended account?

Yes, if your balance is over $10, it will be automatically paid to your PayPal account during the next payout cycle.
