Change your ID.me email address

You can change, add, or delete email addresses linked to your ID.me Wallet at any time. This article explains how to update your email address, set a primary email, and fix common email issues.

Note: You can’t use the same email address on more than one ID.me Wallet. If you're trying to reuse an email, you’ll need to remove it from the other wallet first.
Tip: Add a second email address to your wallet so you always have another way to sign in—especially if you lose access to your primary email.

Add a new email address

  1. Sign in to your ID.me Wallet.
  2. From My Wallet, select Manage Profile.
  3. Select Add an email.

  4. Enter an email address you own, and select whether it is your personal or work email.

  5. Select Send confirmation. A confirmation message will be sent to the newly added email address.

    Tip: If you don't receive the email, check your spam folder. You can resend the verification if needed.
  6. To finish adding your new email address, select the link in the confirmation email.

Mark an email as personal or work

You can mark emails on your wallet as either personal or work:

  1. Sign into your ID.me Wallet and select Manage Profile.
  2. Under “Email”, find the email you want to label.
  3. Select the three dots next to the email, then select Edit.
  4. Check the box next to “Work”, “Personal”, or both.

Change your primary email

Your primary email address is, by default, the email you used to create your ID.me Wallet. We’ll send you important messages about verification and any ID.me marketing emails (if subscribed) to this email. 

Note: Some organizations require the primary email on your ID.me Wallet to match the email they have on file. If you can’t access the organization, contact ID.me Support to change your primary email.

Remove or delete an email

You can remove an email address by deleting it:

  1. Sign in to your ID.me Wallet and select Manage Profile.
  2. Under “Email,” find the email you want to delete.
  3. Select the three dots and select Delete, then confirm by selecting Remove.

To delete or replace your primary email, contact ID.me Support.

Fix problems adding your email

If you're unable to add an email because it’s associated with another wallet, follow the steps in Close a duplicate ID.me Wallet to reuse your email.

If you received the error above but don’t have another wallet, Contact ID.me Support.

I can’t confirm my email address

You’ll need to confirm your email to add it to your wallet. If you have trouble confirming it, visit Confirming your email address.
