Follow your Electronic Prescribing for Controlled Substances (EPCS) or ePrescribing (eRx) healthcare IT provider's guidance for how to get started before you connect to ID.me.
Here is what you may need to verify your identity:
- Email address
- Social Security Number
- Photo ID (Driver's License, Passport, Passport Card, or State ID)
- Mobile phone with camera
- Laptop or computer with a webcam (optional)
- Medical credentials (i.e. NPI, DEA number, etc.)

1. Create an ID.me account or Sign in with an existing account.If you have previously created an ID.me account with a different email address, do not create a new one. Please sign in to your existing account and update your email address.

2. Enter an email address you can access and choose a password. |

3. Select the checkbox to accept ID.me's terms and conditions and privacy policy. Then select Create account. |

4. Confirm your email address by selecting the button in the email we sent to your inbox.Return to your browser. How do I return to my browser on my phone? |

5. Select a multi-factor authentication (MFA) option. |

6. Choose a verification method by selecting which photo ID you'd like to upload.You can take a photo with your mobile phone or upload a photo of your Driver's License, Passport, Passport Card, or State id from your computer. |

7. If you choose to take a photo with your mobile phone, follow the onscreen prompts.You'll be asked to input your phone number. ID.me will send you a text message with a link to your smartphone to take photos of your ID. Learn how to verify your identity without a smartphone. |

8. When prompted, take and submit a video selfie. |
|
|
9. Enter all other requested information including your Social Security number. |
|
|
10. If prompted, complete the Medical credential check.Your EPCS / eRx provider may or may not choose to have ID.me verify your medical credentials. Present your credentials (e.g., NPI, DEA number) if they are requested.

11. Review and confirm to make sure all your information is accurate. Afterward, select Yes at the bottom of your screen.After ID.me verifies your identity you will receive a confirmation text message as a way to protect you from fraud. |

12. Select Allow and continue to finish your identity verification process.The final step is to give consent for your data to be shared back to your EPCS / eRx provider. When you select Allow, the data attributes listed on the Consent screen will be shared securely using encryption technology. |

What if I was unable to verify my identity?
If you were unable to complete the identity verification process, you will be routed to verify your identity over a video call with a Trusted Referee. Wait times may vary.
You will need to show your identity documents to a Trusted Referee along with a selfie (a photo of yourself) to complete your identity verification.
